Apastovsky District

The ancient name of the Apastov land is "Tau Yagy" ("Mountainside") or "Jabalistan". ("Mountainous region"). High hills here have sound names: Karaul mountain, Islam mountain, Gran Tau, Kyz Tau. From their peaks, you can see the beauty of the Volga, from which Apatovsky district is separated Kamsko-Ustyinsky. In the 80s of the last century in the Apastov village of Karatun, scientists found a large treasure of Golden Horde - 35 thousand silver dirhams. But Karatun is known not only for this exciting find but also for the fact that one of three Apastov's railway stations is located here. Through it, passenger and freight trains go to other parts of Tatarstan, Russia, the former CIS countries, such as Kazakhstan.

Population - more than 20 thousand people, including urban population - more than 5.3 people, rural - more than 15.4 people. Over 90% of the population are Tatars, Russians account for 4.8%, and Chuvashes for 3.9%. The region has 11 agricultural enterprises and 17 peasant farms. The largest investor is AK BARS Holding Company JSC.

 Although the district is filled with the spirit of history, it lives a modern, if not a fast life. Last autumn, the Russian government approved the construction of the high-speed highway Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod - Kazan with a length of about 730 km. It is assumed that the road will become part of the international transport corridor "Europe - Western China".

The launch of the project in the area is expected for a long time. There are opportunities for participation in its implementation. Two plants – Tatavtodor and Volgadorstroy produce asphalt and concrete for local enterprises, but the construction of a new highway may require large volumes. This is an interesting investment case, given that there are unexplored mineral deposits in the district. The unexplored mineral deposits are located at a shallow depth and are convenient for opencast mining.

With the diploma in their hands, the young people go directly behind the wheel of the newest combine, to the confectionery shop, or the economic department of the agricultural farm. Contrary to the trends, the district's economy is developing and the number of jobs is growing.

 The college is not just a smithy of agrarian personnel; it is the real center of all the district's youth activity. From "gold" and "silver" at the regional stages of World Skills to the revival of the local student KVN, from GTO (Ready for labor and defense) badges to prize rams for winning the Head of the district Cup - all this is only a small part of the victories of its students. Charged with knowledge and a positive attitude, young people are valuable people who feed not only the district's enterprises but also neighboring regions.

- The grant was 1 million rubles, I bought colts with it. And I built the farm with my own money," says a young farmer Ildar Sagirov from the village of Satlamysheva. He lived in the city for a long time, but as a result, he returned to his ancestral homeland, the land left by his grandfather. Now he breeds horses for meat: there is a great demand for horsemeat at the market. In three years he managed to double the number of horses, bringing it to almost 100 heads. 

 - If he has his land, it is more profitable to make hay than to buy it. In general, I am satisfied with the way things are going and I plan to develop," says the farmer.

 About one and a half million seedlings of flowers of bright, joyful shades of purple, pink, red, more than two dozen thousand seedlings of delicious cucumbers, more than ten thousand bushes of scarlet tomatoes, three million bulbs of tulips, Several thousand seedlings of strawberries, cabbage, melons, watermelon, peppers, eggplant ... All this splendor grows not in the Krasnodar region or another southern region, but the farms of the Apastov businessman Lilia Zainullina. For more than ten years she has been engaged in greenhouses, the area of which today reaches 6 hectares.

 - With the assistance of the district government, we participate in national entrepreneurship support programs and grant contests. We use these funds to develop and improve technologies,- said Liliya Zainullina. - Under the Leasing-grant program, we received 3 million rubles and invested it in increasing the area of greenhouses. The Republic is very helpful: under the program, an asphalted road worth 13 million rubles was laid to the greenhouses.

Twenty thousand containers with flower seedlings are annually sent from Apastov throughout the Republic - fuchsia, begonia, osteospermum, geraniums, hydrangeas from greenhouses of Lilia Zainullina in the summer decorate the streets of towns and cities of Tatarstan. 

 Bread, legends, and spectacles!

 Headliners of the agricultural industry in the Apastovsky district love and know how to work. And projects that develop this very industry, would be a great help to them. Soil fertility can be increased if organic and mineral fertilizers are supplied at a competitive price. There are virtually no grain dryers in the region, which limits the ability of the largest regional agricultural producer, “Sviyaga” (part of AK BARS Holding), to store grain. Breeding cattle breeding has great potential: the list of investment projects on the agenda includes the creation of a mega-farm for 1200 cattle. Finally, a significant part of Apastov's agricultural products, not counting the part of the grain that is processed by local enterprises Karatunskoye Karatunsky BRC (bread receiving company) JSC23, Kaynar Ikmek LLC, and Vkusny Khleb LLC is sent for sale as “raw”. Meanwhile, the region has all the opportunities, primarily infrastructure, to set up an enterprise for harvesting, storing, processing, and selling crops from the Apastov fields. The site is ready for that: an industrial park “Apas”, has been established in the region and its residents are granted tax benefits and other preferences. The infrastructure of the region will include a poultry factory and a meat processing shop. Until recently, the dairy plant (400 tons of produce per day) in Apastovo worked quite successfully but did not survive the financial troubles of its founders. Its building and infrastructure are waiting for its investor. Tatarstan cheese is a new trend of food retailers, and Apastovo milk of high quality will be perfect for their production!

These very cheeses and other local delicacies can decorate the menu of ecological hotels chain, for the location of which as if specially created bays of picturesque and clean rivers - Sviyaga, Ulema, Bula, Cheremshan. The dream of such a chain in the district has been cherishing for many years, especially since it has already begun: the Sviyaga Children's Health Center in Deushev village is known throughout the republic. - Several years ago, archeological excavations were conducted on Kyz-Tau's territory. The researches were conducted by the expedition team of the Institute of History named after Kyz-Tau. Mardjani Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan and the Tatar Humanitarian Institute suggested that there was a pagan temple at the top of Maiden's Mountain in the 6-7th centuries AD, - says Tatarstan journalist-traveler Rais Minnullin.

 Apastovsky district is a real treasury of antiquities, quite material. More than 120 archeological monuments from the epoch of stone, copper, and bronze to the times of the Golden Horde and the Khanate of Kazan were found on its territory. And all this against a background of stunning natural beauty - the reserve "Gran Tau" on the bank of the Ulema, corners with the curious names "Petrov ugol" *, and "Staritsa Sviyagy"**.

 And on the territory of the ringing green and silver leaves of the Baltaevsky forest is a genetic reserve of oak and linden - a nursery, where to preserve the best trees, grow 18 species of trees and shrubs. In the forestry is harvested wood, firewood, produce lumber, household felling. And the forest near the village of Tiavgeldina in the middle of the XIX century was classified as the highest category of forests and was called the ship's grove. These trees were used for shipbuilding till the middle of the XX century. Even today, "plus", i.e. the best oaks in all respects, whose average age is from 100 to 120 years, grow here.

Among these beautiful forests, fields, and hills, the district center of Apastovo is full of colorful roofs. It is growing, gaining momentum, and becoming more and more modern. But the history is also very much honored here - a tour of the monuments installed on its streets will probably take a whole day.
