Aksubayevsky District

There are no cities and significant industries, one-fifth of the territory is in forests, the rest of the land is in arable land and meadows. Aksubayevsky district would not have stood out much among the same modest agrarian Tatarstan districts if it wasn't for one fact. This is the only district in the republic where the Chuvash population prevails over Tatar and Russian. All three people - Chuvash, Tatars, and Russians - live here peacefully and amicably, exactly as it is painted on the coat of arms of Aksubaevsky district: three silver pigeons join the wings around a symbol of fertility - the sun.

Reference: Aksubayevsky district is situated in the south of Tatarstan, in the Zakamsky region. Just over 29 thousand people live here, 44% of them are Chuvash, 38% - Tatars, and 16% - Russians. The rest of the population is of other nationalities. There are 6 oil fields discovered in the region, but most of them are difficult to extract the high-sulfur crude oil. Small oil companies develop the fields. In the district, there are 560 entrepreneurs of different ownership forms, 45 peasant farms, and 30 family farms.

How to feel the Chuvash spirit

Residents of the district love this legend: three brothers, three Chuvash princes with the names Axpae, Ildereke and Endruse founded three villages - Aksubaevo, Ilderyakovo, and Yenoruskino. There is no exact documentary evidence of this, but one thing is known for sure - originally there were only Chuvashes living in Aksubaevo. The Russian peasants were resettled here later, around the same time that they were forcibly baptized by the Chuvashes.

And according to official data, Aksubaevo was founded almost 250 years ago. First, the village belonged to the Staroibrakinskaya parish Chistopolsky district of Kazan province but soon so expanded that the parish center moved to Aksubaevo itself. Under Soviet rule, the parish turned into a district, but its center remained a village for a long time. Aksubaevo received the status of an urban-type settlement 45 years ago when it had about five thousand people. Now almost 10 thousand people consider themselves “almost citizens” of Aksubaevo.

Chuvash culture is the sweetness, the zest that gives taste and fullness of life in the Aksubayevsky district. Chuvash people here have a special, reverent attitude to national traditions. In everyday life, they speak Chuvash, issue Chuvash newspapers, teach children the Chuvash language from kindergarten - it is obvious and expected. But, besides, they live year after year, generation after generation, observing folk customs and rites. They gather in village clubs and sing songs throughout the village, who are part of folk ensembles, and who for no reason, at the call of the soul. Sometimes, in the district's cultural centers, original Chuvash jazz sounds as well. It is performed by Vera Kozhemanova, a graduate of the Nizhnekamsk musical school. She rethinks the national Chuvash song art in a new way, applies it to modern musical styles, and the output turns out to be light, fresh and unusual ethnic jazz.

On holidays it is pleasant to look at Aksubayev's Chuvash as they have authentic national costumes. Real, hempen clothes - suits are either ancient, grandmother's, carefully preserved, or modern, but sewn according to all rules and traditions, decorated with luxurious embroidery. By the way, a whole ethnographic expedition from the neighboring Chuvash Republic came to the Aksubayevsky district for local unique embroidery. Scientists traveled to seven Chuvash villages - Staroye Ilderyakovo, Ilyashkino, Chuvash Yenoruskino, Timoshkino, Belovka, Staroye Uzeyevo, and Sidulovo-Yerykly, and collected rare samples of national men's and women's clothing. White motley shirts with special Aksubayevsky cut, surpans (women's head blanket), decorated with woven inserts and white mezzanine, paired belt pendants - no other place where Chuvashes live such original outfits. Now all this wealth is exhibited in the Museum of Chuvash embroidery in Cheboksary, but, alas, is not represented in Aksubayevo.

The area is very short of an Ethno tourist route dedicated to the Chuvash culture! It will be quite easy to create and fill it with interesting, cognitive artifacts and events - in the villages of Aksubayevsky District there live many bearers of Chuvash traditions. The district administration has already come up with a special project - an Ethno tour to six villages “Sacred Dubrava”, where tourists will be able to get acquainted with the pagan culture of Chuvash, visit places of worship of ancient deities, try national dishes... In the meantime, the project is waiting for investors -visionary and in love with the national culture.

How to pick mushrooms properly

Wolves and foxes, hares and squirrels, elks and wild boars, lynx and martens, grouse and grouse... Typical inhabitants of Aksubayev's forests are like living illustrations to the books by Mikhail Prishvin and Vitaly Bianka. The forest here is rich and picturesque. One of the axial enterprises of the district is Aksubaevsky forestry, skillfully uses its gifts, annually supplying 10 thousand cubic meters of wood to Yelabuga woodworking plant, not forgetting to protect, restore and replenish forest resources.

Aksubayevsky forest and city mushrooms are loved, they collect full baskets of first-class white and red carrots. But this is only in autumn. Therefore, a local businessman Anatoly Samarenkin decided to “earn on mushrooms” in another way - he set up a farm for growing oysters. He chose for his farm the old abandoned warehouses in the village of Staroye Mokshino, repaired, conducted communications, brought mushroom substrate and the basis for cultivation - straw and sunflower husks, and soon began to receive 2 tons of oyster mushroom per month. It turned out that they sell well not only fresh (gourmets believe that they taste better than mushrooms, and cooks use them instead of white mushrooms). Food producers eagerly buy dried oysters, using them as an additive for sauces and spices. That is why Samarenkin has purchased special equipment for drying mushrooms and sells half of the products in the dry form. In two years, the mushroom business has seriously grown: now the farmer is building new buildings for workshops and preparing to harvest 20 tons. The district administration of the farmer is actively bringing in because together with mushrooms the entrepreneurial image of Aksubaevo grows. Here they are ready to support any, even the most modest business, especially new products, and even more so - in agriculture. The neighborhood is agrarian.

How to “collect cream”11 from Aksubaevo land

Like many other districts in Tatarstan, Aksubayevsky district prefers to focus on dairy farming. Both large agro- firms and small family farms are engaged in it. Yearly milk yield in the district grows, and local milk is a special one it is from this that first-class butter is obtained.

During the Soviet Union, Aksubayev's butter was especially appreciated in the army. As the best - high quality and fatty, it was supplied to the Soviet military units of the socialist camp countries, and also sent to stores in the far, northern regions of the country - where high-calorie products are especially needed. The residents were proud of it and rightly believed that a piece of butter produced by the Aksubayevsky dairy plant was the best күчтәнәч* (kuchtenech) in any situation.

With the collapse of the Union, things were going up and down at the dairy plant until the production stopped for several years. Now the plant is reviving again, this year its new owner, the company Vamin Tatarstan, has invested 100 million rubles in production. Now Aksubayevskoye oil will be produced under different brands, depending on which companies will buy it, as the owners of the plant prefer to sell the finished products in bulk. But the quality of
the oil remains the same - with a special, pronounced creamy taste and dense consistency.

Such quality of dairy products gives Aksubaev farmers special soil. It's black soil here, with a high bonitet**. Cereals and vegetables grow well, as well as fodder herbs. This attracts to the district companies engaged in the cultivation of high-margin crops, such as Kazan's Volga-Select, which receives in Aksubayevsky district excellent yields of grain legumes and oilseeds.

Local authorities believe that other investors may follow the example of Volga-Selekt because the conditions for the launch of new agricultural production in the district are the most favorable: good soil, good ecology, and good people who can earn their living on bread. With butter, of course.

*Күчтәнәч (kuchtenech) - translated from Tatar "hotel", that is, a gift that is brought to the guests.

**Bonitet - an assessment that reflects its productivity and predicts its yield.

4 ideas for business in Aksubayevsky District:

1 Processing of wood waste. 22% of the district's territory is covered with forests, but this is mostly low-grade wood. There are several production directions related to the processing of low-grade wood and its waste. Here are just a few options:

• Production of cement wood, the so-called wood brick that is used in low-rise construction and as insulation.

•  Fertilisers are produced by composting wood waste.

•  Production of charcoal. It is used in chemical and metallurgical industries as an insulating material in construction, and in agriculture as a feed additive for livestock and poultry.

•  Production of fuel briquettes, pellets, and "firewood".

2.  Production of bottled spring water. There are four dozen springs in the area; the water is rich in minerals and suitable for drinking. Pure drinking water under the Ak-Su brand may become a trademark of the district.

3.  Packaging and sale of honey and beekeeping products under a single brand. There are a lot of experienced beekeepers in the district who have been doing this business for decades. All of them sell their products independently and sometimes with great difficulty. It is possible to create and promote a single brand of Aksubayevsky Honey on the market.

4.  Organizing mini-hotels and guest houses. Ethno tourism development in Aksubayevsky District is directly linked to the development of hospitality infrastructure. Hostels and small hotels of different price categories will be in great demand.
