Intergovernmental commission on cooperation between Russia and Slovakia: the role of Tatarstan


The 20th session of the Intergovernmental commission on economic and scientific-technical cooperation between Russia and Slovakia took place in Sochi. The session was chaired by Denis Manturov, the Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, and Peter Ziga, the Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic. The parties discussed cooperation in the sphere of energy sector, industry, science, education, and interregional links.

“I would like to emphasize that the Slovak Republic considers the Russian Federation an important partner in trade and economy cooperation. We have a lot of joint projects and a potential for cooperation”, said Peter Ziga.

Insaf Galiev, the First Deputy Head of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, presented the economic potential of Tatarstan and the prospects for its interaction with Slovakia.

In the first half of 2019, the volume of mutual trade between the countries grew by 11%, exceeding 3 billion dollars. The share of Tatarstan exceeds 10%: the foreign trade turnover increased by 38% in 6 months, reaching $322 mln. Slovakia belongs to the top ten trading partners of our republic. TIDA cooperates with Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO), Club-500, and members of business community.

The Intergovernmental commission considers forming a special working group between Tatarstan and Slovakia, which was stipulated in the final protocol of the session.
